Charles Ickes

Charles Ickes

Chief Logistics Officer, Rent the Runway

Charles Ickes is currently the Chief Logistics Officer at Rent the Runway (“RTR”), a fashion company with a technology soul that is disrupting the way women get dressed. He was previously the Senior VP of Operations, and continues to innovate at a company that has seen enormous growth through his implementation of automation, process improvement, and just in time reverse logistics for a ground-breaking model that is also incidentally ‘the largest dry cleaner' in the world.

Responsible for the strategic growth of RTR's supply chain and distribution, the company is currently growing at close to a triple digit rate, shipping millions of dresses annually. Charles innovated just in time reverse logistics for RTR's online dress rental model to North America. This model is part of the sharing economy and has been transformative in access to designer dresses to the public, considered the ‘democratization of fashion'. Charles joined the company within a year of inception and has shaped processes, systems, and transportation negotiations, which has improved gross margins per shipment by 129%. A few more of his significant achievements include construction of the world's largest dry-cleaning facility, capable of cleaning 6,000 dresses per hour, running 24 hours a day; multiple US patent pending on reusable packaging, saving 9% per shipment and leading to a better user experience; conducted an ESG sustainability survey to implement a closed loop chiller system, saving 15 million gallons of water a year.
